Hawaii 2012. Our last day.

Sunday was our last day in paradise. It was so sad.
We woke up early and instead of heading down to breakfast, we hopped into our swimsuits one last time, slathered little D in sunblock, and just went straight to the beach. It was a gorgeous Hawaii morning. We dropped our towels in the sand and just went straight into the water. Declan was happy as a clam, splashing the water with his hands, going back and forth between my arms and his daddy's. After a week, he was finally enjoying swimming. Just in time for us to go home. That was the first morning that I felt confident enough in the ocean to head out past where my feet could touch. Another big difference from me falling over in the waves the first day. Haha.

After not long enough frankly, we knew we needed to go back. We had to be out of our room at noon, and we still hadn't started packing. We took showers and got dressed, put Declan down for a nap, and started packing. It was within moments that we realized we needed one more suitcase. I volunteered to walk down a few blocks, remembering I had seen a pink turtle suitcase in a shop window days before. I wandered down to the shop and got the suitcase. When I walked back into the room, I accidentally woke up the baby. Oops. That was to be the theme for Sunday. Poor Declan could not sleep for more than a few minutes without being woken up. Poor kid.

So we finished packing. One sad suitcase full of dirty clothes. Another full of the souvenirs for the boys and the family. Another full of "stuff". We got everything organized and were out the door, luggage in hand with ten minutes to spare. We checked out and checked the luggage items in with the concierge downstairs. We had HOURS to kill before our shuttle would take us to the airport. Five hours. We pulled out $4 and once again decided to hop on the pink line to Ala Moana. I was all too happy to get one last chance to shop somewhere other than Alaska, plus there was a little bit of space left in the new suitcase. It would be a shame to not fill it... right?
So we did a little bit of shopping, found some great deals on some clothes for Declan. We then stopped at Ruby Tuesdays for a late lunch. Neither of us were impressed. It wasn't good at all. By then, it was time to hop the trolley back. We took one last ride through Waikiki on the way back to our hotel.

At 5 o'clock, our first shuttle driver of the trip was back to take us back to the airport. We got loaded up and headed out. We were at the airport about 4.5 hours early. Thank goodness. That was the worst customer service agent I have ever seen. It took another hour for her to help four customers ahead of us and there were no other Alaska airlines agents. It was ridiculous. We got through security, and had some time to kill. We decided to eat one last meal, so we stopped at the California Pizza Kitchen, again, not impressed at all. Then we did some store wandering before heading to our gate. We let D crawl around in an empty area of the terminal for a little while. The poor baby had seriously had four "naps" that had amounted to about 5 minutes each all day. He was over stimulated and wired. Not a good combination for flying out on a red eye flight.

That was a long night. We pulled out of the gate 30 minutes late due to a "paperwork issue." Neither of us slept. I started swelling again in the air, and Declan was restless all night, so we were both awake. We landed in Anchorage past 6 am Monday morning, grabbed our luggage, and found J's dad. He got us home, Jason put Declan straight to his crib, and we all went to bed finally (and slept half the day away).
It was a great trip, the trip of a lifetime... which we will be repeating at some point. With all our boys next time. We have so much to show them!
